John Conway is a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. John has been employed at The Center for Discovery since 2001 and is currently director of The Center’s media relations office as well as serving as the agency’s liaison with the local community. Prior to that, he oversaw a $60 million expansion program at The Center, which included the construction of a Platinum LEED certified building.

John was the chairman of the Sullivan County Climate Action Plan Advisory Committee and has been a member of the board of directors of the Sullivan County Partnership since May of 2013. He previously served on the Town of Highland Comprehensive Plan Rewrite Committee.

John has been involved in the research and development of alternative propulsion transportation systems, including electric motors, solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells, ethanol, and biodiesel. He has supervised the introduction of biodiesel in fleet operations, and he was involved in all aspects of the electric vehicle industry, including design, repair, and sale for more than a decade. John is knowledgeable in environmentally friendly and sustainable building materials and practices, and helped to develop new “green” products for use in the construction industry.

John has been the official Sullivan County Historian since 1993. He has written seven books and has written a weekly newspaper column on local history since 1987. A veteran radio and television broadcaster, he is a former play-by-play announcer for major college and Major League Baseball and has appeared numerous times on national television in the U.S. and in Europe.
