Sullivan Country saw a solid 4.4 percent increase in Visitor Spending during 2015 with visitors spending $388.3 million. This is $16.3 million more than 2014, when visitors rang the cash register to the tune of $372 million.
Local sales tax increased to $26 million – or a 5.1 percent increase. Nearly one in every seven jobs – or 15.7 percent – of all labor income in Sullivan County is generated by visitors, the highest in the Catskill Region. Sullivan County tourism industry generates $155 million in labor income.
If it were not for tourism-generated local and state taxes, each household in Sullivan County would have to pay an additional $1,612 to maintain the same level of government revenue.
