The Sullivan County Partnership for Economic Development will join the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce and the Monticello High School Academy of Finance to host a special Fall Foliage Mixer on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Bernie’s Holiday Restaurant in Rock Hill.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Monticello High School Academy of Finance Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors.
“As a graduate of the very first Academy of Finance class at the Monticello High School, I can say with confidence that this two-year program was instrumental in helping develop the proper skills and ethics to succeed in the business world,” said event volunteer Joel Blum, a financial advisor and senior vice president at Ameriprise Financial.
“By investing in our students today, the Partnership is helping to ensure a stronger tomorrow for Sullivan County,” said Marc Baez, president/CEO of Sullivan County Partnership.
Monticello High School’s Academy of Finance program, open to students at the end of 10th grade, helps prepare young people for college and careers in a variety of disciplines through work-based learning programs and internships. To be selected for the program, students must be recommended by their teacher and guidance counselor.
“We balance holding students accountable to reach the high standards we set for them, while providing a caring and supportive environment,” said Susan Bahrenburg, director of Monticello High School’s Academy of Finance. “Our mission is to teach the fundamentals of business by including relevant and meaningful experiences through SUNY Sullivan courses, internships, job shadowing, field trips to businesses and Wall Street, guest speakers, and a supportive Advisory Board.”
She added: “Our Academy has consistently exceeded the Monticello High School graduation and college enrollment rates.”
Tickets for the mixer are $25 per person, and include hors d’oeuvres. Bernie’s Holiday Restaurant is located at 277 Rock Hill Drive in Rock Hill, N.Y. Checks can be made payable to: MHS AOF. Please RSVP to Joel Blum, CRPC by calling 845.291.7000 or emailing at email@example.com.
